TEATER MODULAR is a series of original Malaysian playlets by Ridhwan Saidi. There will be 12 playlets overall. The playlets will be named playlet #1, playlet #2… until playlet #12 respectively. For each four playlets, it will be staged. The first set of playlets (#1, #2, #3 & #4) has been staged at Revolution Stage, 15-19 March 2017 directed by four young Malaysian theatre directors: Fahmi Harun, Sak Don, Walid Ali and Qiu Qatina. The next set of playlets (#5, #6, #7 & #8) has been written and is planned to be staged this October 2017 by four young Malaysian directors: Qiu Qatina, Walid Ali, Mia Sabrina Mahadir and Nana.

The budget will be distributed mainly for the directors and actors training session, 3 months prior to the staging.
OBJECTIVES
1. To produce short original stage plays.
2. To celebrate contemporary new voices.
3. To engage with non-theatre-goer/first time audience.
4. To embrace physical documentation (of the scripts through zine.)
ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT/DIRECTORS:
teater modular – Ridhwan Saidi, graduated with a degree in Architecture, author of six novels including Mautopia which is being adapted into a full-length play. Runs Moka Mocha Ink an independent publishing house that publishes the Teater Modular zine containing scripts, photos and brief interviews with the directors of Teater Modular.
playlet #5: Tas Tangan – As a spoken word poet, Nana has participated in both solo and ensemble performances at events including George Town Literary Festival and Suatukala in Langkawi. Under the nom de plume Nabila Najwa, her writing has been featured in The Jakarta Post, Dirty x Dirty, Jurnal Obscura, and the Malaysian Anthology of Modern Poetry.
playlet #6: Pengantin, Freestyle! – Qiu Qatina, 24, graduated with a degree in theatre from UiTM. She established Asterik Anak Seni an independent theatre production. Actively involved in various theatre production company as director, actor and playwright.
playlet #7: Berat Dosa Siapa Yang Tahu? – Mia Sabrina Mahadir, graduated in Mass Comm from KDU University College. First theatre experience: Short+Sweet Malaysia in 2012. Apart from doing theatre, she writes, and teach Bahasa Malaysia.
playlet #8: Korban Bulan Madu – Walid Ali, a multi-displinary artist. Creative director for Luar Kotak Production. He has performed live art at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Chapters Arts Centre.
We have not lock a venue yet as to get the right space with the right feeling is the biggest challenge. We have locked the venue! We will be working closely with the technical team to ensure the smooth-running of the production during the run.
We are a group of young theatre lover that are involve in various theatre production and activism and we believe that we are well-placed to deliver this ongoing playlets series to the highest standard possible. Modular Boleh!

Graduated with a Bsc in Architecture, Ridhwan Saidi is a Malaysian novelist and playwright. He started writing seriously since 2008 when he initiated the blog Binfilem (binfilem.blogspot.com) where he wrote about film and architecture among other things. He runs an indie publishing outfit Moka Mocha Ink (mokamochaink.com) which focuses on contemporary Malay fiction. He’s part of LiteraCity research team, a literary mapping project of Kuala Lumpur. He was selected for residency programme at ASEAN Literary Festival 2016 and represents Malaysia at Makassar International Writers Festival 2017. Currently he’s working on Teater Modular, a series of offbeat playlets.
